Oprah Show About Puppy Mills

As a Secular Franciscan and as a foster mom for a rescue organization for Maltese dogs, I had a special interest in the recent Oprah show about puppy mills. However, since I work, I was not able to see it. I am grateful that I have found a place to download the show from the website of Coalition Against Misery: www.coalitionagainstmisery.com/Puppymills.html

If you haven't seen the Oprah show about puppy mills, you can download it here. If you don't know about puppy mills, this show and the websites will open your eyes and your heart to reach out to these helpless, innocent creatures of God. In fact, you may cry, but it also should make you angry - very, very angry!!!

Have you ever looked into the eyes of an abused, neglected and sick dog? A puppy mill dog? Witness their sorrow and their hope.

For information on adopting them, please go to Hearts United for Animals For more information about puppy mills go to Prisonersofgreed.org

Oprah is speaking up on behalf of man's best friend - speaking against animal abuse and puppy mills. The primary source for advocacy on behalf of these victims and the primary responsibility for protecting them from these evils lies with God's people. The greedy, evil people who run these puppy mills are counting on your indifference. Laws must be changed to prevent these places from exisiting. And this is just the beginning of the problem. Where are you - people of God - where are you?

"The Animals Savior"

I looked at the caged animals in the
shelter...the cast offs of human society.
I saw in their eyes love and hope,
fear and dread, sadness and betrayal.
And I was angry"
God," I said "this is terrible! Why don't you
do something?"
God was silent for a moment and then
He spoke softly
"I have done something." He replied
"I created You"

Prayer for Animals
Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals, especially for animals who are suffering; for animals that are overworked, underfed and cruelly treated; for all wistful creatures in captivity that beat their wings against bars; for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put death. We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity, and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals, and so to share the blessings of the merciful. (Albert Schweitzer)

From Rule of the Secular Franciscan Order

Chapter II

18. Moreover they should respect all creatures, animate and inanimate, which bear the imprint of the Most High, and they should strive to move from the temptation of exploiting creation to the Franciscan concept of universal kinship.
